Dead Feminists: Historic Heroines in Living Color

Dead Feminists: Historic Heroines in Living Color

This gorgeously illustrated letterpress-inspired book combines feminist history with a vision for a better future. Based on the beloved Dead Feminists letterpress poster series, this illuminating look at 27 women who’ve changed the world features a foreword by Jill Lepore, author of The Secret History of Wonder Woman. Intricate and beautiful broadside art takes center stage in this richly visual book that ties inspiring women and the challenges they faced to today’s most important issues. The book revisits the original posters—plus adds new art, archival photographs, and ephemera—to tell the stories of feminists such as Eleanor Roosevelt, Gwendolyn Brooks, Rachel Carson, and more. Dead Feminists takes feminist inspiration to a new level of artistry and shows how ordinary and extraordinary women have made a difference throughout history (and how you can too).

  1. This book is beautiful. There is a brief illustrated history of each woman and her influence, a behind the scenes glimpse of the art process, and then the amazing artwork that Chandler O’Leary and Jessica Spring created with their inspiration. I bought this for my wife’s birthday, and she is delighted to share it with our two daughters.

  2. I spectacular art book, informative and full color, perfect for any bedside or coffee table. There are plenty of fascinating historical figures covered- some familiar favorites and plenty of others I had never heard of. The prints and design of the book are beautiful, from the cover to the last page. Highly recommended!

  3. Gorgeous book. These authors chose feminists many are aware of (Harriet Tubman, Marie Curie) as well as people many may not be aware of and put them all together in a great book filled with illustrations, pictures, and documents from that feminists time/about that feminist’s contributions to the world and how she shaped it. It’s so fun and interesting to read and look through. I spent many happy hours pouring over it.

  4. I am a collector of the posters and I was thrilled that Chandler and Jessica did a book on their “behind the scenes” process. Like the posters, the book is absolutely stunning! I ended up buying more for gifts.

  5. Gorgeous book with a lot of information about some amazing women. Purchased a copy for myself and will be purchasing more copies as presents for friends.
